Abstract

The present study aims to understand the impact of writing anxiety among university learners in Pakistan. The main inspiration for choosing this study was the participant’s poor writing proficiency.  The data was collected through qualitative method to gain a general understanding of the phenomenon by semi structured interviews with a smaller sample to explore and explain the phenomenon in question. For qualitative data, semi-structured interview was conducted from 12 participants of three universities. The data was analyzed by NVivo software version 11 which generated codes or themes. The findings of this study indicated the EFL writing anxiety of the participants showing the way in which the anxiety of learners was proportionally influenced by multiple factors. This study revealed the most promising results indicating cognitive anxiety, fear of negative evaluation and the test anxiety as the main factors to overcome the writing problems.
