This study investigates the influence of peer pressure on academic performance among university students, exploring both positive and negative aspects. Peer pressure, a significant social influence, can motivate students toward academic excellence or lead to behaviors like cheating and plagiarism. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as social comparison theory and social learning theory, this research examines how peer dynamics affect students' motivation, attitudes, and academic self-efficacy. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 university students (ages 18–28) to gather qualitative insights. Findings reveal themes such as peer-induced cheating, normalization of plagiarism, and changes in motivation driven by peer influence. Positive peer relationships foster confidence and resilience, while competitive or negative influences may heighten anxiety and reduce academic engagement. By understanding these dynamics, the study highlights the importance of promoting supportive peer environments and interventions to mitigate harmful effects, fostering healthier academic behaviors and a culture of integrity.
